LET'S EAT REAL FOOD!

What’s this all about? Why join me on this path to good health? This concerns you. This concerns your children. This concerns anyone who eats food. Let me explain what it’s all about…

Further to my first blog, my reasons in being here are to heal, FEEL GOOD, and teach you the same – using the knowledge and skills I’m learning while studying to be a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner with the Nutritional Therapy Association.

I’d like to give you bite sized, easy to chew on, interesting, informative snacks of knowledge to get you started on the right path to good health. Nothing long-winded or over the top, I want you to succeed – and who’s got time to read mega blogs these days, not me and I’m sure not you! You’ll get interesting, helpful, thought provoking and sometimes scary facts. I believe everyone wants to feel good and they want the best for their children and family, but sometimes it’s hard to see through the overwhelming noise of the internet to know just what to do and where to start. So I’m here for you, don’t be afraid to reach out.

My training is through The NTA. They are unique because their evidence based framework is taught on a foundational approach to nutrition while honouring the fact we are all bio-individuals. We as NTP’s (or future NTP’s!) have been taught specific skills for assessing the body’s nutritional deficiencies and how to address those weaknesses through diet, supplements and lifestyle changes. But we aren’t just sent out to pasture once trained. We are fully supported behind the scenes with a faction of skilled, acclaimed and experienced NTP’s with one dedicated focus: to promote health by providing nutritional education and connecting individuals who support diverse, global communities. We really do give a damn.

There are six foundations that we need to ensure are functioning properly within the body to gain optimal health – digestion, blood sugar, fatty acids, minerals, hydration, and of course – a nutrient dense diet. These foundations all work synergistically together so if one foundation crumbles then generally a cascade of dysfunction follows – sooner or later. Never before have we been so sick with chronic illness and disease.

LET’S EAT REAL FOOD!  Why? What does this mean? Basically, if what you eat is processed and packaged then there’s probably some chemical ingredient involved so it tastes ridiculously good and so it can be stored for a long time. Then you eat it or drink it. And you eat or drink those chemicals. It really pays to know exactly what’s in your food. I’ll explain why later on.

By now you might be asking, but if processed food is so full of toxic chemical crap that we shouldn’t eat, why is it allowed to be consumed by everyone? The answer is BIG BUSINESS. I’ll explain more about this later on too.

Anyway, back to REAL FOOD! Consider if your great-grandmother could identify it – it should be ok. I’m talking about vegetables, fruit, red meat, chicken, fish, eggs, animal fats, butter, ghee/lard, pulses, legumes, berries, whole grains, seeds, nuts (some people can’t tolerate some foods, that’s ok, we can figure those out). Now I’m not saying I eat perfectly by any means. But I sure have changed a lot about what I eat, and that’s made such a huge difference already. So I’ll continue to learn and adjust what I eat. This is NOT a fad diet, this is NOT watching how much we eat, this is NOT for short term. This is all about what we eat to heal and be healthy.

Sound too hard? Not at all. With a bit of planning and preparation it’ll soon become second nature. We just need to have the motivation, knowledge and support to create new habits – that’s how I can help you. We need to get away from the excuses of I’ve always done it this way and I’m fine – are you really? What if your fine is actually only what you’re used to, what if your fine could instead be bloody amazing!?!
